Using ISAN in MXF

ISAN can be carried in MXF by the following means:

- In MXF Header Metadata

• using the SMPTE 377M Descriptive Metadata plug-in mechanism
• using proprietary extensions of MXF structural Metadata sets

- In generic container system item elements

- In specific areas of essence streams (e.g. MPEG-2)

When using the SMPTE 377M Descriptive Metadata Scheme

ISAN shall be represented with its SMPTE Metadata Dictionary Universal Label, in the following manner :

“identifier kind”    = ISAN“identifierlocator”  = urn:smpte:ul:060e2b34.01010101.01011101.00000000

When carried in MPEG-2 essence stream

In all other cases

ISAN will preferably be carried in its URN representation (RFC 4246)
